mylo's overview

Sony mylo is a versatile, easy to carry communication and multimedia device designed for people on the go. Let's take a look at its main components and functionalities:

Operating System

One of mylo's strong points is its operating system which runs on Linux with Trolltech's Qtopia platform on top of it. This gives mylo great stability and performance and allows a lot of evolution possibilities.
Mylo boots up and is ready to be used in seconds.

WiFi

To communicate with external world, mylo relies on its WiFi capabilities.
This makes it dependable on hotspots proximity, which tends to be less and less an issue due to accelerated rate on which these communication gates are installed.
There are already millions of WiFi hotspots in the US. WiFi is available in almost every university campus, main shopping malls, coffee shops, restaurants, hotels, airports and so on. More than 15 million American homes are equipped with a wireless network.

Depending on the network, the communication will be free or will require a fee.

Based on the 802.11b norm mylo's WiFi makes it compatible with most of available networks. Once switched on, mylo shows available wireless networks almost instantly, all you have to do is to select the network you want to use.

mylo comes with 12 months free access to all of 7000 T-Mobile WiFi hotspots which makes it easy to communicate in many public places such as coffeehouses, stores, hotels and airports. To make it even easier, mylo's pre-installed JiWireTM database contains coordinates of more than 20,000 public hotspots in the US.

You can chat using Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk or Skype. Using IM is easy because the built in QWERTY keyboard allows you to type without the hassle of the repeated key presses you'd need on the number keypad found on most portable devices.
