Why to compare mylo to PSP?
Both come from the same manufacturer, look alike but seem to aim different markets.
PSP is a gaming device before everything else.
Just take a look at it: it is like a PS2 gamepad with the whole PS2 inside;
a screen in the middle, between control keys and a mini-joystick. All that with a disk drive and batteries included.
Not directly gaming related features, like WiFi, video and audio playback and web browsing, make from the PSP something more than (just) a gaming machine:
you can view films, on UMD, not on DVD (thus PSP is not a portable DVD player), you can browse web but there's no keyboard-like input device
which means instant messaging or email activities are very difficult to perform.
Nevertheless its extra possibilities, PSP is a game machine.
Mylo is different, it's a communication device.
Even if its shape looks similar to a downsized PSP, there's no real gaming support.
OK, it is possible to play java and flash games on it, thanks to mylo's Linux OS using Trolltech's Qtopia platform and Opera browser, but
there are no controls provided to enable decent gaming.
Let's sum up what makes mylo a real pocketable communication device:
Mylo is small enough to be carry around in a pocket, PSP not.
Mylo has a keyboard, PSP not.
Mylo has a microphone built-in, so you can use VoIP to call for free via Internet, PSP not.
On the other hand:
PSP is all equipped and optimized for multimedia. Mylo, not as much; OK, you can watch some films but PSP's screen is much better for this.
It's wide (16:9), has millions of colors and is nearly twice bigger than the mylo's one.
So, do we need both gadgets to have fun on-the-go? Well...the answer is yes.
