802.11b : is an IEEE standard designation for a wireless network operating at a frequency of 2.4 GHz with transfer rates up to 11Mbps.

AAC : stands for "Advanced Audio Coding" and refers to an audio coding algorithm used in some popular media compression technologies (See also MPEG4).

ATRAC3+ : SONY's proprietary audio files compression format (See also MP3).

DivX : highly efficient and popular video compression technology based on the MPEG format (See MPEG4).

Firmware : device's base software consisting on operating system and default applications and settings stored in system's flash memory.

IEEE : stands for "Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers".

LCD : stands for "Liquid Crystal Display" and refers to display components (screens, displays) based on liquid crystals' light polarization property.

Lithium-Ion : one of the main and the most used power storage technology for mobile devices. Lithium-Ion batteries replace less versatile and old technologies such as Ni-Cd or Ni-MH.

Mbps : stands for "Mega bits per second" and refers to the amount of bits of information transmitted from one point to another within one second.

Memory Stick : Sony's proprietary flash memory storage card.

MP3 : most popular audio files compression format (See also Sony's ATRAC3+).

MPEG4 : one of the most popular video format (See also DiVX).

PDA : stands for "Personal Digital Assistant". Mostly handheld, small electronic device offering mainly organisational capabilities such as calendar, email and office productivity applications.

Thumb keyboard : small text input device (keyboard) designed to be hands-held and to be operated with user's thumbs.

USB : stands for "Universal Serial Bus" and refers to a high-speed bidirectional serial connection between devices used to transfer data. The USB 2.0 specification provides a data rate of up to 480 Mbps.

VoIP : stands for "Voice over Internet Protocol" and refers to technology for transmitting ordinary telephone calls over the Internet using packet-based networks.

Web Browser : software program used to navigate, display and interact with information pages found on the World Wide Web.

WAV : short for "Waveform audio format" and refers to an audio file format standard used for storing audio mainly on computers.

WiFi : is an acronym applied to wireless local area network (WLAN) devices that are based on the IEEE 802.11 standards.

WLAN : stands for "Wireless Local Area Network" and refers to a type of local-area network in which data is sent and received via high-frequency radio waves instead of cables or wires.
